The New Media Outlets Shaping Tech

The media space has changed drastically in the past five years. Newspapers and major business publications still provide credibility and authority, but much of the most influential technology coverage now comes from independent newsletters and podcasts.
Their power comes from personal trust. Readers trust specific authors and return for their judgment. Listeners spend hours with a host every week. The strongest creators have built direct relationships with audiences that many established publications struggle to match. This lets them cover a company, market, or technical field with far more depth.
This matters to anyone building or communicating a business. A feature in the Financial Times, Bloomberg, or The New York Times remains valuable. An appearance on TBPN, Lenny’s Podcast, or a respected specialist show can reach a smaller but much more relevant group of founders, customers, investors, and prospective hires. As we argued in The State of Media 2026, companies now need both institutional trust and personal trust.
Independent media demands more care. The authors publish less, know their audiences closely, and protect the trust that makes their work valuable. Generic pitches rarely survive, and many block PR agencies altogether because of negative past experience. To reach them, start by reading and listening to understand what they truly care about.
All of them care about providing their readers with something useful.
